The local government of Cavite partners with the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) to stage i-Proclaim! 3 on January 13, 2012 during the kick-off celebration of National Bible Week. A campaign to conduct public oral readings of the Bible in as many locations across the country, i-Proclaim! seeks to bring God’s Word closer to Filipinos and to encourage everyone to explore its riches and relevance to their lives.  It was launched in 2010 at the Bonifacio Shrine in Manila under the auspices of the Manila City Government and is a cooperative effort by PBS, the Episcopal Commission for Biblical Apostolate of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines, National Council of Churches in the Philippines, Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, independent churches, local governments and churches from different denominations.

National Bible Week is a yearly celebration empowered by Proclamation No. 44 by President Corazon C. Aquino and by Proclamation No. 1067 by President Fidel V. Ramos. Both edicts recognize the important role played by the reading and study of the Bible in molding the moral fiber of the citizenry and encourage every Filipino to do so daily. National Bible Week 2012 carries the theme: May They Be One: Pagpapahayag ng Salita ng Diyos Tungo sa Pagbabago (Proclaiming God’s Word Towards National Transformation) and is slated on January 23-29, 2012 and National Bible Sunday on January 29, 2012. The theme is a response to the current administration’s goal of abolishing corruption and promoting the moral development of the people.

This year’s i-Proclaim! 3 will be held at the historic Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite from 8 am – 8 pm. The kick-off celebration will also highlight the Handwritten Unity Bible, a historic undertaking that aims to unite Filipinos from all sectors by re-writing the Bible by hand.

Mrs. Nora G. Lucero, PBS General Secretary and Chairperson of the Global Board of the United Bible Societies says “We want to encourage our kababayans to set aside differences, come together and be one in reading God’s Word. This is a public confession – I, and we hope you and all other Filipinos too — will proclaim that we as a people, are putting God’s Word in the center of our national life and that we submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ!”

The i-Proclaim! Bible reading campaign is similar to the Holy Week Pabasa or Pasyon, and is patterned after the Canadian Bible Society’s Proclamation which began in Quebec, Canada where over 200 readers came together in 1995 to read the Holy Scriptures in 12 different languages. The activity is open to all who wish to read the Scriptures.
