Finding joy in celebrating the World Day of Prayer PDF Print E-mail
Every year, the Philippine Bible Society, along with other Bible Societies around the globe, observe May 9 as World Day of Prayer, enjoining everyone to intercede for the Bible work worldwide. The World Day of Prayer also commemorates the founding of the United Bible Societies—a fellowship of 146 Bible Societies which translate, print and distribute the Scriptures in more than 200 countries and territories.
This year, the Philippine Bible Society celebrated with a half day event of prayer and fellowship. The World Day of Prayer began with a solemn time of intercession where staff members prayed for the needs of the Bible Society assigned to them.
After the prayer time, a team set off to conduct a Scripture distribution at the Hospicio de San Jose welfare facility.

A PBS Staff shares God's Word to the children of Hospicio de San Jose

Established in 1810, the Hospicio de San Jose is a Catholic Welfare institution and a home of orphans, abandoned and special children and elderly people.
The PBS contingent ministered to almost 40 kids ages 3 to 13 years old spending time talking and playing with them. The kids also enjoyed a 30-minute film showing about the life changing story of Saul of Tarsus and a presentation of the Wordless Book where they came to know about Jesus and the importance of reading and studying God's Word.
The eagerness of the kids, the handicapped and elderly residents, and even the nurses and social workers who received copies of  the Bible is an encouragement to the Bible Society employees, affirming the importance of the Bible Ministry and their personal contribution in reaching people with the Scriptures.
With a renewed sense of purpose, the staff went back to their daily tasks blessed and encouraged to strive harder to make the Bible known. While appreciating the unique opportunity of being able to touch lives in the Philippines through the ministry of the Bible Society and globally through the United Bible Societies.
