From January 19-25, 2009, the entire country will once again be celebrating National Bible Week (NBW), and on the 25th, National Bible Sunday. The observance of NBW is empowered by Presidential Proclamations 44 and 1067 enjoining Filipinos to read and study God’s Word to promote spiritual, moral and social stability in the country.
NBW 2009 is anchored on the theme May They Be One, in response to the prayer of Christ for all His children to “be one,” (John 17.21). As a nation, the Philippines must uphold the Bible as the true and lasting bind that unites individuals, families, and communities, fostering harmony and national transformation. The celebration’s logo encapsulates the ideals of unity amid diversity, particularly of the eight pillars of society namely: Family, Church, Education, Government, Business, Media, Arts & Entertainment, and Science & Technology. |

May They Be One Bible Campaign Launched |
|
September 30, 2008 was an eventful night with the launching of the May They Be One Bible Campaign at the Manila Cathedral. The evening began with an ecumenical prayer service to seek God’s blessing on the Bible Campaign. Bishop Broderick Pabillo presided over the ecumenical prayer service while representatives of different denominations—Bishop Nathanael Lazaro and Fr. Rex Reyes (NCCP), Edith De Jesus (FOCOLARE), Dr. Philip Flores (TOPIC Phils.), and Prime Bishop Ignacio Soliba of the Episcopal Church of the Philippines—led the reading of the Psalms and Reflections. This was followed by a Holy Mass officiated by the Papal Nuncio Edward Joseph Adams and concelebrated by a number of Bishops led by the head of the Philippine Delegation to the World Synod of Bishops in Rome, Bishop Arturo Bastes who is the Chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (CBCP-ECBA) and President of the Philippine Bible Society’s Board of Trustees.

The National Bible Week 2009 logo is a dynamic representation of Philippine society -- unity in diversity -- in action. Showcased are the eight pillars of society -- Family, Church, Education, Government, Business, Media, Arts & Entertainment, and Science & Technology. Each pillar is unique and separate yet integral in what constitutes our Filipino-ness. The theme and logo “May They Be One” also puts emphasis on the biggest sector or our society -- the youth -- as the driving force behind this campaign for unity. It is our hope and prayer that under the light and guidance of the Bible, our manual to life, the Filipino youth will take up the challenge of drawing our country together, one in working for peace and progress until we see a transformed Philippines. |
