Ten participants from different churches completed the Scripture Selection Writing Workshop held by the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) at its Manila office last September 11 and 18, 2017.
Scripture Selections are produced in the form of pamphlets or booklets that convey biblical truths in relation to contemporary issues. Over the years, PBS has been a regular herald of Scripture selections, tackling social issues such as national elections, calamities, sex, debts, violence in the media, among others.
“Praise the Lord because it was a learning experience for all. They were a good group—very cooperative and hardworking,” says Dr. Del Corro.
One participant shared how the workshop was a blessing both for her and for her home church. “The long travel was worth it! This writing workshop is helpful especially that our church hopes to publish a book that aims to inform mission workers regarding indigenous peoples,” says Maritess Santiago, a missionary teacher from Batangas City. Her local church specifically ministers to Badjao communities in their area.
The participants also contributed topics on recent social issues and were later asked to each draft a Scripture Selection. The workshop concluded after final drafts were proposed to the Translation Consultants, which are now being reviewed and evaluated for possible publication.
